Acupuncture for Infantile Colics: New Remedy!

Swedish researchers found that acupuncture helps reduce the cry of babies with colic. The study conducted had 147 babies between the ages of 2 to 8 weeks old with colics in four infantile public health centers in Sweden.

Acupuncture for babies? It truly sounds slightly menacing. If I was a young mother, I would be very concerned with undergoing such a treatment to treat colic for my child. However, the results that these studies present are so solid that it may be worth a change. Here is why.

The babies were divided in three groups. Each group visited the clinic two times a week for two weeks.

One group received the best available treatment or the “gold standard”, plus 5 minutes of minimal acupuncture.

The second group received the standard care plus 5 minutes of acupuncture.

The third group received only the standard care.

Both groups that received acupuncture showed a reduction in the time they spend crying in the second week and continuous follow-up.

Most babies showed a reduced colic time of three hours when compared to the control group. They were effectively eliminated from the colic category completely. There were no secondary effects registered from this study.
